A Note about our "Aesthetic":

Guests to the website and patrons often compliment St. Henry's on the understated elegance of our "look" in terms of costuming and presentation.

Our "Aesthetic" (the philosophy of artistic presentation) we tend towards fairly simple:

*Court costumes must replicate the styles of the era and have contemporary portrait evidence of the style.  As such, our courtiers are rarely the "ropes of pearls" wearing nobles. We adorn our clothing according to our station and according to the aesthetic of the portraits of the times. As such, monarchs and dukes are allowed the most elaborate in jewelry and embellishments, while lower nobles have a more simple and streamlined look. Fit, silhouette, fabric and color choices take precedence.

*Our presentations tend toward the pastimes of the lively arts of the time period:  dancing, singing, conversational skills, rhetoric, drama and light athletics are our forte.

*Our encampment is small and easily maintained with a certain laissez faire elegance-- flowers, candles, banners, and fine rugs create a lovely backdrop for the human interactions we portray at faire.

*Our "character costumes" (costumes designed for a specific, fictional character) are encouraged to use period construction and style as much as possible while still developing the individual look of the character.

*St. Henry's recommends The Tudor Tailor and Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion in researching period appropriate patterns.
