About Us
What is a Guild?
A Guild, in the 16th century, was an association of skilled craftsmen not unlike a present day trade union. A Guild in modern day Renaissance faires is a group of re-entactors who portray a particular aspect of Renaissance life.
What is St. Henry's?
St. Henry’s Guild is the acting troupe that portrays the couriers and households of the Tudor Monarchs at several California Renaissance Faires. We also provide costumed actors for themed feasts, fund-raisers and events for educational and non-profit organizations.
As a principle court we can provide Henry VIII and his wives, Queen Mary and her court, or Queen Elizabeth I (from the age of 24 on) and her principle courtiers.
As a support court for other noble guilds, we fill in roles of nobility, gentry, and household where we can, offer assistance with repast, meet and greet, and a variety of courtly entertainments throughout the day. In our group we encourage singing, dancing, period sports and gaming, and storytelling. We also specialize in a crowd pleasing "dressing gig" as we demonstrate courtly attire and we write and perform original "closet dramas" and masqes for the entertainment of the court.
As a performing troupe, we try to find activities at all levels of ability and comfort, from guard and household duties, to singing, dancing, and performing in stage shows.
We also have a lot of fun and camaraderie pursuing a hobby that we love. Love of history and a desire for personal excellence is at the root of St. Henry’s mission.
St. Henry's Guild is based in the San Joaquin Valley, California.
